Today is the last day that we set our sights on the interior of the 944, continuing to tear it out with reckless abandon! No need to remove the interior gently, as this car is going full-race and never going back! Because racecar!
Sanctioned by Rally America, the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood will cover over 120 racing miles that will test rally teams from all across the country (and several foreign countries) on a variety of gravel road surfaces. Set in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, this rally contains some of the most scenic roads on the Rally America calendar. Each day will begin with a rally car show and opening ceremony. The public is invited to join in the festivities, see the cars up close, pose for photos, get autographs, and meet the teams at the start of each day and at the service areas in Steelville on Friday and the Dent County Commons on Saturday. Teams will compete throughout each day, passing multiple spectator points, before returning to Salem Saturday night. There is no admission charge for any of these events.

In order to remove the gas tank, you have to remove the transaxle. This video is a continuation from that process. I removed the fuel filter, fuel pump, fill tube and vent hoses, and also removed both straps and both mounting bolts. However, because my exhaust is rusted and won’t come out, I was unable to get the gas tank to drop out. Meh. FAIL.
Sometimes incorrectly referred to as a transmission, the Porsche 944 transaxle is a fairly good piece of engineering. However, in order to remove my gas tank, I have to remove the transaxle. So, yeah, that sucks.

Some models of the Porsche 944 have this annoying metal/plastic/rubber trim piece around the windshield, that makes it nearly impossible to cut away the sealant. So… We used a couple chisels, and some pry bars, and, yeah, no more windshield. Haha.
